Safe Work Australia is urging employers and workers to get behind National Safe Work Month, which begins in October, and has released resources and information to assist.
This year’s theme is “Be a Safety Champion” and SWA is encouraging both employers and workers from any occupation or industry to be champions for work health and safety.
“Anyone can be a safety champion and promote best practice work health and safety initiatives at work. We all have a duty and responsibility to build a safe and healthy workplace.”
As part of the campaign, SWA is urging organisations to consider good work design in order to help improve performance, job satisfaction and productivity.
The regulator says that considering health and safety issues during the planning stages when designing work can help to eliminate hazards and manage risks.
SWA says the effective design of good work considers:
“The most effective design process begins at the earliest opportunity during the conceptual and planning phases. At this early stage, there is the greatest chance of finding ways to design out hazards, incorporate effective risk control measures and design-in efficiencies.”
