Safe Work Australia released a new interactive data website yesterday, allowing users to explore national WHS (Work Health and Safety) and workers compensation data in an easy and user-friendly way. From this, a wide range of WHS data is accessible through dashboards, data collections, and reports that were not previously available. Users can create their own charts and tables to analyse WHS data by industry, occupation, year, and mechanism of injury.
The website will help users identify and communicate stories relevant to their workplaces. Safe Work Australia’s research shows that work-related injuries and illnesses have significant human and economic impacts. Safe Work Australia Chief Executive Officer, Michelle Baxter says,
“Around 120,000 workers are compensated for a serious work-related injury or illness each year and, while the number fluctuates, up to 200 are killed at work.
“Our research shows that in the absence of work-related injuries and illnesses, on average each year Australia’s economy would be $28.6 billion larger and 185,500 additional full-time equivalent jobs would be created.”
The new website can be accessed here. The website was launched after receiving feedback from key stakeholders who use Safe Work Australia’s data. It will be updated regularly with new data and features.
