The National Return to Work Strategy 2020-2030 is a 10-year plan designed to enhance return-to-work outcomes for employees recovering from work-related injuries or illnesses. The strategy was first launched in January of 2020, where it was endorsed by health and safety ministers. It focuses on coordinating national efforts to minimise the impact of workplace injury and enable safe, timely, and sustainable returns to work.
Research shows that helping injured workers return or stay at work during recovery is something that is complex and looks different for all workplaces. The Strategy provides a framework to foster collaboration, develop research, share insights, and target areas with the greatest potential for positive outcomes.
Five years into its implementation, Safe Work Australia is conducting a mid-term review to ensure the Strategy remains effective and responsive. The review will evaluate:
Impact on National Action: How well the Strategy drives coordinated national efforts to improve return-to-work outcomes.
Progress and Targets: Achievements so far toward strategic outcomes and national benchmarks.
Key Challenges: Identification of areas needing greater attention in the next five years.
Measures and Targets: The relevance and effectiveness of existing performance indicators and national goals.
The public consultation will gather feedback to assess the Strategy’s effectiveness and inform key priorities for its remaining years.
Now, SafeWork is asking for insights to help shape the next phase of the Strategy. You can now fill out the survey and have your say on things like:
