WA Mine Safety Performance + Transitional Arrangements

Arrangements are in place to ensure a smooth transition from the occupational safety and health legislation to the work health and safety legislation. These arrangements are important for many aspects of the legislation including licensing, registered plant and safety and health representatives.
Upcoming changes to the Safety Regulation System
WA’s new WHS laws will commence on Thursday 31 March. As a result, many changes will occur to the Safety Regulation System (SRS) at commencement to support the new laws, including any transitional arrangements.
To enable SRS to be configured to support the WHS laws, SRS will be unavailable on 30 March and 31 March 2022.
Requests and notifications/submissions related to exemptions, agreements, approvals (under the current mines safety legislation) will not be processed after 28 March.

Safety performance in mining
The department has released Safety performance in the Western Australian mineral industry 2020-21.
This safety performance report presents some of the accident and injury data DMIRS collects. Analysis of this data led to the identification of four areas of concern that WorkSafe Mines Safety inspectors will focus on throughout
2022. These include:
- Hazardous manual tasks
- Workers repeatedly exposed to workplace hazards
- Contract workforce
- Mentally healthy workplaces
