Mentally healthy workplaces

The Work Health and Safety Commission has issued a series of codes of practice which focus on different areas where psychosocial as well physical harms may be experienced in a workplace.

The most recent publications which apply to workplaces covered by the Work Health and Safety laws are:

• Code of practice – Violence and aggression at work
• Code of practice – Workplace behaviour
• Code of practice – Psychosocial hazards in the workplace

Health and Safety representatives – Information sheets

The department has released a series of information sheets for health and safety representatives which provide guidance on:

• Health and safety representative powers, functions and rights
• Provisional improvement notices (PINs) and direction to stop unsafe work
• Electing health and safety representatives

How well does your organisation address psychosocial hazards in the workplace?

Nominations are open for the “Best intervention to address a psychosocial hazard in the workplace”.  This category in the 2022 Work Health and Safety Excellence Awards recognises an organisation’s commitment to the prevention of psychosocial hazards in the workplace.

This award replaces the “Best workplace health and wellbeing initiative”.  Past winner of that award was AECOM Australia Pty Ltd.

• Work health and safety invention of the year
• Best solution to a work health and safety risk
• Leadership excellence award
• Health and safety representative of the year

The Work Health and Safety Excellence Awards recognise outstanding solutions and innovations to specific health and safety problems in Western Australian workplaces.

Minesafe International Conference 2022

AusIMM will be holding its MineSafe International Conference 2022 on 4 – 5 May 2022.

This conference brings together Government regulators, health and safety practitioners and other resource industry professionals to share the achievements and challenges within their operations and showcase new workplace safety innovations.

The conference will cover current and emerging health issues, legislation and regulations, policies and strategies, risk management and critical controls. As well as, highlight effective leadership strategies and psychosocial management that promotes a zero harm workplace safety culture.
