Road Sense Australia (RSA) is dedicated to reducing road trauma and encouraging safer road users through innovative educational programs. One of their key initiatives, the Drive It Home program, is designed to improve occupational driver safety by equipping employees with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate roads responsibly.
As an organisation that has had over eleven years of experience in road safety education by running an NSW Court accredited program for traffic offenders, which has seen over 60,000 participants, RSA is well equipped to help both workers and employers improve their road safety.
Workplace road crashes remain a significant concern, with 42 per cent of work-related fatalities in Australia resulting from vehicle incidents—more than triple any other cause (Safework Australia, 2024). This alarming statistic highlights the need for proactive intervention. RSA recognises the importance of integrating road safety into workplace training and offers Drive It Home as a practical solution for organisations committed to protecting workers.
“Every road user deserves to arrive home safely. With road crashes accounting for nearly half of all workplace fatalities, integrating road safety into workplace training is essential. Road Sense Australia’s Drive It Home road safety program supports the Australian National Road Safety Strategy by equipping employees with the skills to make safer driving choices. When businesses prioritise road safety, they protect their people, reduce risks, and save on costly crashes, insurance claims and lost productivity. A commitment to safer driving is a commitment to a safer workplace,” Michael Fitzgibbins, CEO and Founder of RSA.
Employees who drive for work—even just between sites—face the same hazards as all other road users, but the demands and stressors of their job often put them at greater risk. Speeding, fatigue, adverse environmental conditions and driver distraction. Without proper training, these risks can lead to serious consequences for both employees and employers.
RSA understands that every organisation has unique requirements based on industry, workforce size, and operational factors. Drive It Home is structured into flexible modules that cover essential road safety topics, allowing businesses to tailor the training to their specific needs while maintaining a strong emphasis on comprehensive driver education.
By incorporating Drive It Home into workplace health and safety training, organisations can promote a culture of road safety, boost employee confidence behind the wheel, and reduce road-related injuries. The costs of workplace crashes extend beyond vehicle repairs and insurance claims—they impact productivity, employee health and well-being, and public safety.
Road Sense Australia remains committed to developing programs that instil road safety awareness that changes behaviours and attitudes. A well-trained workforce not only enhances productivity but also contributes to safer roads for all Australians. Through Drive It Home, we can all help improve road safety Australia wide, by equipping participants with the tools and knowledge needed to make the best decisions on the road.
