Released this week are three documents which provide information on the principles and framework for the regulatory approach that the WorkSafe Commissioner and WorkSafe (inclusive of the general industries, mines safety and petroleum safety inspectorates) will take under the WHS Act.
The following indicators represent significant compliance activities undertaken by Mines Safety Inspectors and highlights the Department’s continued focus on transparency.

Research is being conducted at the Environmental and Occupational Health faculty at the University of Newcastle into worker perceptions of noise exposure and hearing loss in Australian coal mining. This research will provide Australian coal mines with evidence of current practices related to occupational hearing loss prevention strategies, from the perspective of both the worker and the workplace. The findings will contribute to the development of targeted noise control strategies in the future, with which to better protect a workers’ hearing.
